Welcome to the Leesburg Elementary School Garden! A combination of raised beds and vertical grow towers, these students grow everything from flowers to vegetables.
Beautiful black, inky, soil, just the way our plants like! Next up, till well and plant. Love sugar snap peas? Awesome, but remember, these plants love to climb so we made a teepee support.
Everyone gather around. It’s time to plant the peas. One for you, one for you, one for you…
Don’t worry. There’s enough for everyone. And teamwork gets the job done.
Those towers you see in the background aren’t hydroponic towers, exactly. They’re vertical grow towers. Water pumps through, but they use a natural fiber media for growing–instead of soil. Thank you to our volunteers, Linda and Tom. Soon, these students will be back in action!
A couple weeks and the new growth has already begun.
Above is the “before” picture of their grow towers. Below is the “after” photo. Are these kids AWESOME or what?
Speaking of vertical grow towers blooming in abundance, take a look at how their celery is doing.

Their tomatoes and peppers are doing extremely well, too, considering the few cold snaps we’ve had in recent weeks.

These gardeners are GOOD. Thank you to my tremendous volunteers, Linda and Tom! Together, our community is growing strong.
