Tavares Elementary has a group of fifth grade honor society students ready to tackle the responsibility of a school garden. Awesome! Better yet, they plan to share their new skills with their fellow students. Did I hear win-win? I did.
First step, add soil to the new raised beds. Teamwork is the key to success as these students work together to empty, blend, and smooth out their new garden beds.

The students were anxious to plant, but in Florida come January, you simply cannot trust the weather. Some days it’s cold, some days it’s hot. Some days it’s pouring down rain. But patience wins in the end and the students finally planted their garden.
We’re talking lettuce, kale, cabbage, cauliflower, radish, carrots, beets and potatoes!
All cool weather plants here in Florida that can tolerate a dip into the 40s. A good thing, because February is just as fickle as January when it comes to the rise and fall of temperatures.
No worries. You won’t stop a determined gardener. And not only did these students plant today–they installed their irrigation!
Talk about over-achievers, these garden gurus are it. And the task was made all the easier by using the Mister Landscaper irrigation system.
They had great fun doing, too. Now, all is well in their new garden. Plus, I love the new garden bench. Great for taking a break between garden chores.
Tavares Elementary is fully-planted and ready for harvest. Now’s the hard part. Waiting for all those gorgeous crops to grow!
