Treadway Elementary has joined our tower garden project funded in part by the USDA Food and Nutrition Services grant we recently received, and the students are off to a great start! We begin by seeding our trays. In no time they will be transferring their sprouts to their towers. Can’t wait!!
Seeds have sprouted and were moved to their tower homes. Students labeled their pods to keep organized. Well done!
Prior to our arrival, the students did a great time taking care of their plants and have been quite successful. Why look at this green pepper!
It’s gorgeous. And not too bad for a December garden. What can they say? Florida living has its benefits. Like year-round gardening!
The kohlrabi looks beautiful, too, as does the cabbage.
And with such a wonderful beginning, we’d love to see these students expand upon their talents adding more beds to their school garden.
As 2019 begins, so does the planting at Treadway Elementary. And in Florida, strawberries are an ever-popular crop.
The hardest part about growing strawberries? Waiting for them to ripen! Aren’t they gorgeous…
But it’s not the only thing going into the ground. Cabbage, swiss chard, carrots and radish–a veritable smorgasbord of delights!
